The next Apple Watch Ultra will feature a slightly bigger display powered by Micro-LED and arrive in 2024.
That's the word from Taiwanese outlet DigiTimes, at least, which cites industry sources in a report detailing the next-gen Apple smartwatch.
The information lines up with last month's rumor from tech analyst Jeff Pu, who indicated that Apple will swap the OLED for its own in-house Micro-LED solution beginning next year.
This latest scrap, however, goes a little deeper, suggesting that the 1.93-inch display of the current Apple Watch Ultra will be extended by 10%.
It means the already-big Ultra case size could reach 50mm, with the display upgrade also expected to deliver improved battery efficiency and contrast ratios.
Given that the first-gen Ultra can currently manage around two days of life - and the similarly vibrant Garmin Epix 2 and Garmin Marq 2 range can reach closer to a week - this would potentially give the line a huge boost.
But what it means for any potential 2023 update to the Ultra is unclear. Given that this is only still a single-generation product, we have no real reference point as to Apple's update cycle.
It could be like the Series smartwatches and offer incremental updates each year, or prove more like the Apple Watch SE and update less frequently.
Time will tell, but expect more rumors regarding the Ultra to continue over the coming months.
