Update: The Garmin Forerunner 265 and 965 are now official. Read all about them in our guide.
Garmin could be about to drop a new Forerunner 265 running watch, and herald a new era of full AMOLED sports watches.
A pair of new filings have landed at the FCC, which indicate a new sports watch is incoming.
The two numbers are only separated by a single digit, indicating a single watch, coming in two sizes. Garmin regularly launches smaller versions of its sports watch, such as the Forerunner 255 and 255S.
Leaks last year (see image below) indicated that Garmin could launch a Forerunner 265, with a full AMOLED display – so it’s fuelled speculation that this could be it.

In our 2023 predictions, we speculated that Garmin would continue to roll out full AMOLED screens onto its devices.
The transflective display used across its sports watches has enabled excellent battery life over the years, but it’s undeniably a big step down when compared to the Apple Watch.
Wareable
The launch of the Garmin Epix (2nd Gen) last year proved that the company has the ability to deliver a top-quality display and still offer excellent battery life – so it feels time that it rolled out across the range.
The key question now is the price point and positioning. The Forerunner 255 sits at $300 ($350 for music). So would a Forerunner 265 replace it? Or would it sit above it? And where would that leave the Forerunner 955?
That all remains to be seen, but if the rumors are true, we won’t have long to wait.
