A massive Garmin update has landed across some of its key devices, adding new features and sports modes.
The 20.82 update is heading to the Garmin Fenix 6, as well as Garmin MARQ and Enduro.
And many of these features are landing on Forerunner 245, 745 and 945 as well.
First up the 20.82 update brings support for endurance horseback riding and brings Easyhunt to the DogTracks app, for those that lay scent trails for dogs.
If you use any of the Enduro/Fenix 6/MARQ then these will true-up your resting heart rate data, which will ensure it’s consistent across all your Garmin devices.
And all of these devices will now support Connect IQ 5, which was introduced back in October 2021, and offers improvements to apps within the Garmin ecosystem.
There’s also been an overhaul to the guided strength workouts. There’s now an improved workout preview, and your device will show a map of muscles that will be used before you start. And the free mode and workouts will see improvements to rep tracking and editing.
Sleep tracking accuracy has been improved, and is now in line with the latest Garmin releases such as Fenix 7 and Instinct 2.
And likewise, Garmin has made improvements to the Run/Idle detection algorithm, so you should see a better experience if you stop to cross the road.
Forerunner 945/745/245 update
On the Forerunner family of devices, there’s a slightly different set of improvements. However, there’s no love for the forgotten Garmin Forerunner 645.
All of the 245,745 and 945 will get the same changes to sleep detection, RHR true-up and run/idle detection.
The 745 and 945 will get the strength and muscle map improvements for guided workouts outlined above, although the 245 will only get the free weights UI improvements.
It’s still a chunky update to a large portion of the 2020-21 range of Garmin sports watches.
Many of these updates are only in public beta, so it might take a while to land on your watch.
