The Google Pixel Watch has been treated to its first major Pixel Feature Drop, and there are some significant new features for users to enjoy.
The first upgrade comes to sleep tracking, which is powered by Fitbit. The Google Pixel Watch will now support the Fitbit Sleep Profiles feature, which offers extra insight into your sleep habits.
The Sleep Profile features use animal types to characterize your sleep patterns and offer insight into what kind of sleeper you are. It’s a bit of fun, but with a serious point. It can help you understand your circadian rhythms, and the advice provided by Fitbit can help you make positive adjustments to your habits.
There are 10 different animal profiles, and just like on Fitbit, you’ll need to register 14 nights of sleep before you’ll be assigned one. These can also change over time if your sleep patterns adjust.
Sleep is also a factor for an update to Pixel 6 and 6 Pro smartphones too. The company is launching snoring and coughing detection. This is something we’d love to see roll out to the Pixel Watch in the future, but given this means scanning audio throughout the night, there’s going to need to be a huge battery improvement before that can happen.
New Tiles
And then there are some improvements to Wear OS 3 as well.
Wear OS is getting a host of new Tiles. These are the glanceable items that present quick snapshots of information in Google’s operating system. You can swipe between tiles left and right from the watch face.
There’s now a sunrise/sunset tile, which is especially useful as the northern hemisphere descends into winter.
And now you can pin five of your favorite contacts to a tile, so you can quickly call or message them from the wrist.
The new update is rolling out now, so check your smartwatch to get the new features.
