Huawei has announced the global launch of its Watch GT Cyber at MWC.
It’s already out in China, and has made its way to some South American markets.
It’s essentially a barebone Huawei Watch GT 3 (on the inside) that fits into separate case surrounds, complete with matching straps.
Wareable
There’s no mechanism, just give it a good push with your thumbs to separate it from the surround, choose a new look, and pop it into another.
And you can even swap out the digital crown too if you want a different style.
We gave it a try and it was ridiculously easy.
The extra surround does combine to make the Watch GT Cyber feel wider than a standard GT Watch 3, and it measures 47.4mm, up from 45.9mm.

The display slightly shrinks from the GT 3 as well, with a 1.32-inch display, down from 1.43-inch on its predecessor.
So it’s bigger, but with a smaller display – which is noticeable on the wrist.
We have to say we thought there’d be a larger range of designs, and each of the six cases do look fairly similar in terms of design language, even if the color varies. For example, there’s no metal/link bracelet option. Huawei didn’t rule out adding to the line-up in the future.
Huawei made no secret that the Cyber is G-SHOCK inspired – so it’s not designed to be a smart accessory. That’s a bit of a shame, as it does seem like a chance to have a device that can be worn to the gym during the day, and out for dinner in the evening.
When you pop the Cyber into a new case, the smartwatch will tweak the watch face color to match the strap, which is a neat little party trick.
It also has some other highly silly features, such as the ability to take a picture of your outfit using the partner app and have a complimentary watch face applied.
Huawei says you’ll get two different strap/surround options with the Watch GT Cyber – and then others from the range can be bought separately.

The G-SHOCK theme continues, and Huawei says that the watch has passed a series of durability tests. It’s 5ATM water resistant, so it’s good for a dip or the shower.
It’s another unique take on smartwatches by Huawei, which seems intent to throw as many crazy ideas out there as it can (see Huawei Watch Buds).
And why not. With precious little innovation happening in smartwatches this year, it’s great to see Huawei have a bit of fun with the form factor.
