We’re getting closer to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 – and we now have an idea of how much it will cost.
According to new leaks, reported by DealInTech, the 40mm Galaxy Watch 5 model will cost €259 in Europe, while the larger 44mm version will cost €286.
Rewind the clock to 2021, the Galaxy Watch 4 debuted at €269/€299 – so the price has been slashed by €10.
That represents a small reduction in price of the standard Galaxy Watch 5 smartwatch – which comes as a pleasant surprise.
Converting Euros to USD doesn't really relate to what the price will actually end up being in the US – but the GW4 started at $249/$279. So there's a high chance of the MSRP being the same, or even dropping.
And given global inflation and semi-conductor shortages, it's great news that Samsung hasn't whacked the price of its smartwatch up.
There will be a bigger jump for the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, which will cost €430. That’s a massive jump over the now obsolete Classic – although there will be significant improvements.
And that brings us on neatly to the next big rumor, regarding battery life.
According to Ice Universe, who we’ve been reporting throughout the lifespan of Galaxy Watch 5 rumors, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will deliver bigger battery life.
The leaker tweeted “The battery life of the Galaxy Watch5 Pro can reach at least 3 days.”
That would set a new gold standard for Wear OS watches – but perhaps it’s not totally surprising.
The Galaxy Watch 4 impressed by managing a two-day battery life, and the size of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro battery has purportedly been increased to 572mAh, up from 361mAh on the standard GW4.
That would offer a big incentive for people to pay around $150 more for the Pro version – and give the Galaxy Watch 5 a lead in the upcoming head-to-head against the Google Pixel Watch.
As ever, this is all rumor and hearsay – but fortunately there’s not long until the reported 10 August announcement of the Galaxy Watch 5.
