Movano has unveiled its smart ring ahead of CES 2023, and we now have a clearer picture of the Oura rival.
The startup teased its smart ring last year, which is specifically designed for women. While there’s not a huge amount of new information, we have a much better look at the design and aesthetic.
The Movano Evie boasts a more jewelry-like design, which seems a tad thicker and chunkier than previously released renders. However, it features a bold aesthetic that the company hopes will resonate with its target market.
It’s packed with features, which the company claims will help women to better understand their health via actionable insights.
The ring will track resting heart rate, heart rate variability, SpO2, respiration rate, skin temperature variability, period and ovulation tracking, menstrual symptom tracking, and sleep stages and mood.
We spoke to John Mastrototaro back in August 2022, who told Wareable that the company wanted to create a device made specifically for women, due to a lack of female-specific wearables on the market:
“There were a number of reasons why we felt that that was the right thing to do. First off, we think women have been grossly underserved by the wearable market today. We feel like a lot of the products look like they were designed initially for men, he said.
It took Oura three generations and a large update to roll out SpO2 functionality this year – so Evie is off to a good start.
Movano also teased elements of its app, ahead of a full launch at CES 2023 in Las Vegas this January.
The Movano Evie will be released in three colors: gold, silver, and rose gold. There’s no official pricing, but the press release revealed that it should retail for less than $300.
The company did reveal that there will be no monthly subscription for Evie’s features, a move that will dramatically undercut the Oura Ring 3, which has a mandatory $6.99 per month fee, on top of a chunky $300 price tag.
Given the amount of research and development that goes into delivering the kind of insight, Movano is clearly betting big on a successful launch.
We’re set to learn more about the Movano Ring at CES, and will hear from John Mastrototaro directly about what’s set to be a big year for smart rings.
