There’s a new Wear OS 3 smartwatch in town, in the form of the Diesel Griffed Gen 6.
From the same stable as Fossil and Skagen, which have already launched their Gen 6 smartwatches, the Diesel Griffed Gen 6 puts the new version of Wear into a statement case with some outrageous strap options.
Diesel watches, both smart and analog, have never shied away from a bold design. The last smartwatches we saw were the Diesel Fadelite (2020) and the Diesel On Axial (2019).
And the Griffed is no different with its prominent pushers, lugs, and crown.
The Griffed also brings some new features, on top of the updated Wear OS experience, which brings a slicker interface and an improved selection of third-party apps.
Diesel has added fast charging, which will juice the Griffed up to 80% in just 30 mins.
The companion app has also been overhauled. Wear OS no longer needs the Wear app, so more interaction is performed via the Diesel app, which now analyses health and fitness data from the smartwatch.
Like the rest of the Wear OS 3 field, it runs on a Snapdragon 4100+ processor – although that has been superseded by the Snapdragon W5+. However, we’re yet to see that land on any smartwatches, and will likely be saved for Gen 7 devices next year.
And the smartwatch has Alexa on board too, as a voice assistant, which will be positive news for those disappointed with the lack of Assistant integration we’ve seen from Google.
Elsewhere, there’s a SpO2 sensor, GPS, heart rate monitor, and Google Wallet on board. We can’t say the chunky design screams fitness to us, but the features are there if you want them.
However, it’s only 3ATM water resistant, so keep it away from the shower or pool.
In terms of colorways, it will be launched in silver/black, gunmetal/black, and silver
stainless steel. You can also opt for some pretty outrageous Diesel branded nylon and silicone, or leather bands
The Diesel Griffed Gen 6 will cost $350/£329 – and goes on sale 1 December.
